Our instructor training courses offer specialist training with no caps on training hours (Gold & Silver). You'll receive both in-class and 1-to-1 training on the road, ensuring you're fully prepared for all three parts of the course. Recognizing that many aspiring instructors want to become a driving instructor, we focus on teaching you the essential skills for Part 3 (your teaching ability) right from the beginning, as we believe it's the most challenging of the three examinations. All necessary materials, including CDs, books, and training resources, are supplied. Plus, we offer easy 'Pay As U Go' fees. As you pursue driving school opportunities, you can also earn while you learn with a Trainee licence after passing your Part 2 exam. In addition to our in-person lessons, we also provide a variety of online resources to help you prepare for your driving test. From practice quizzes to instructional videos, we have everything you need to succeed as you explore driving school opportunities and consider our instructor training courses to become a driving instructor.

Part 1 of the driving instructor tests consists of a Theory and Hazard Perception exam. To become a driving instructor, you will face 100 questions from four distinct categories, requiring a minimum of 85 correct answers. Additionally, you must pass each individual category. You have 90 minutes to complete this section of the test. 

The second part evaluates your hazard perception skills, essential for instructor training courses. In this section, you will watch 14 video clips, one of which will contain two hazards. To pass, you must score at least 57 out of a possible 75 marks. 

There is no limit on how many times you can take these tests. After passing Part 1, you need to complete Parts 2 and 3 within two years to avoid starting over from Part 1, ensuring that you are well-prepared for driving school opportunities.

Part 2 is an advanced test of your driving ability, essential for those looking to become a driving instructor. This portion lasts around 1 hour and includes an eyesight test, along with questions about general vehicle maintenance and safety. You will receive 1-2-1 in-car training, practicing all necessary manoeuvres and mock test routes. This Part 2 exam can be taken up to a maximum of 3 times. Once you pass your Part 2 exam, you can take advantage of driving school opportunities by obtaining a Trainee Licence. This licence lets you apply your skills in practice while also allowing you to ‘teach for reward’ and earn while you learn through instructor training courses.

The Part 3 exam is a crucial assessment of your instructional and teaching ability as you aim to become a driving instructor. During this test, a supervising examiner will evaluate your instructional techniques, instructor characteristics, and core competencies by role-playing with two different types of pupils: Phase 1, representing a new or inexperienced pupil, and Phase 2, symbolizing a more seasoned pupil or even a full licence holder.

At Gold Standard Driving, we recognize that Part 3 presents unique challenges and demands significant preparation. That's why we kick off our instructor training courses early in the process. For our Silver & Gold Package, we offer unlimited training hours and at least two training sessions per week to ensure you’re fully prepared.

Your performance will be graded on a scale from 0 to 51, with a minimum score of 31 required to pass. Once you successfully complete Part 3, you will need to apply for your ‘green badge’ and will then join the register of approved driving instructors.
